20 hosting ideas for people who love a cosy night in *`¯´*.¸¸.*`¯´*
There's a specific type of person (me) who's been waiting for autumn to start since about July, the one who already knows what candles she's buying and has strong opinions about hosting. If that's you, or if you're just the friend who ends up hosting anyway, here's 20 cosy night in ideas for turning your living room into the only plan anyone needs this season...

1. Y2K spa night with face masks and bubbly
As a child I couldn't wait to do this and somewhere along the way we all just... forgot? Put a spa playlist on Spotify, lay out face masks and hair masks, get everyone in pyjamas with a glass of something bubbly. The conversation flows on its own after that.

2. Letters to your future selves
This one feels genuinely romantic and I don't say that lightly. It's such a unique way to learn what your friends are actually dreaming about, not just what they post. Source some beautiful paper and envelopes, decorate them if you're feeling it, and everyone leaves feeling weirdly motivated.
3. Gourmet trash night on your best silverware
Instead of just ordering a takeaway and eating it out the box, host a proper gourmet trash night instead. Get out the silverware and the cutlery you never use, then order a burger and chips like it's a tasting menu. It's easy to pull off but somehow feels like the most thoughtful, glamorous thing you've done all month.

4. Cosy book swap
We're heading into cosy season, which also means the doomscrolling risk goes up, so use this one to keep each other accountable. Everyone comes over with two books they've read and loved and swaps. It's nice because it gives you a reason to text that friend later just to talk about how you're getting on.

5. Candle-lit dinner party for six
Turn off every overhead light and light everything else you own instead. Six people round a table lit only by candles somehow makes even a simple pasta feel like an occasion.
6. Build your own pizza night
Lay out dough, sauce and every topping you can find, let everyone build their own, bake in batches. Messy, cheap, and there's always one person who goes rogue with the toppings.
7. Board game marathon with mulled wine
Pick two or three games nobody's played in years, put some mulled wine on, and settle in properly. This is the kind of night that runs three hours longer than anyone planned, in the best way.
8. Bake something none of you have tried before
There's been such cute cakes going viral recently, a dot cake, a gem cake, pick whichever intimidates you most and attempt it as a group. Permission granted to have cake for dinner if it goes wrong. A lil dot cake recipe here.

9. Blind taste test night
Cheap wine against fancy wine, own brand crisps against the real thing, see who can actually tell the difference. Turns "we're all a bit skint this month" into the entire bit of the evening instead of something to apologise for.
10. Fondue night, everyone brings a dip
Someone brings the pot, everyone else brings something to dip in it, bread, fruit, whatever you fancy. Feels indulgent for very little effort.
11. Pyjama double feature film night
Two films, proper pyjamas, blankets non negotiable. Pick one nostalgic pick and one nobody's seen, and don't let anyone check their phone during either.

12. Cook a three course meal together
Assign a course each, starter, main, dessert, and actually sit down properly between them. It slows the whole evening down in a way a normal dinner never quite does.
13. Wreath or garland making evening
Pick up whatever's cheap and seasonal, foliage, dried flowers, ribbon, and let everyone make their own version. Genuinely satisfying and you all leave with something for your front door.
14. Tea and tarot reading night
Doesn't matter if anyone actually believes in it, it's mostly an excuse to say things out loud you wouldn't normally bring up. Put the kettle on and take it in turns.

15. At home mocktail masterclass
Look up two or three recipes, buy the syrups and garnishes in advance, and let everyone have a go at making their own. Feels like a proper night out without anyone needing to drive anywhere after.
16. Bring a dish potluck
Everyone brings one dish, nobody has to cook a full meal alone, and you end up with a spread nobody could have planned better on purpose.
17. Living room disco with a house playlist
Move the furniture back, put the fairy lights on, build a playlist everyone contributes to beforehand. Genuinely one of the cheapest, funnest nights on this list.

18. Guess the takeaway blind challenge
Order from three different places, plate everything up so nobody can see the packaging, and see who can guess which is which. Turns an ordinary takeaway night into something with actual stakes.
19. Host a murder mystery night
Buy a kit online or write your own if you're feeling ambitious, assign characters in advance, and commit properly for the evening. Always ends in someone staying in character far longer than necessary.
20. Get the next one in the diary
Before everyone puts their coats on, open Quti, the social calendar for your group chat, and get the next hosting night locked in. It's so much easier to actually happen when it's already got a date attached, rather than being the thing everyone agrees to "soon" and then doesn't.
Hosting doesn't need to mean a dinner party you've been planning for three weeks, it can just be Tuesday with a face mask on. Pick one of these, get a date in Quti before anyone leaves, and watch a normal week turn into the bit everyone talks about after.
